Free to Be Me Poems on Love Life and Relationships edition by Cherrie Amour Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
Cherrie's book takes you on her journey of self exploration. Her experiences has made her the woman she is today. I'm sure everyone can relate to certain aspects of her story. Buy it. Read it. Love it!
Very good because it reveals heartfelt truth. The form of poetry is refreshing. I am glad I bought/read it quickly.
Free To Be Me "Lovin" speaks to most females about their journeys in love. In life I have listened, spoke about and vented about this topic one on one and in group settings. Cherrie has put all the words I have heard over years into this "OMG" I remember that into this poetic setting . My favorites are Lovin' and What Love Ain't. Thank you Cherrie I'm having a gathering with sister friends and will be sharing your book.
In "Free to be Me" through poetry, Cherrie shares her personal journey through feelings of abandonment, search for love, death of loved ones, realization of self worth and healing. The poems were well written and I was able to relate to many of the themes. This book of poetry is an extension of her spoken word cds. I look forward to more reading more of her work.
"Livin'". . ."Why I Write". . ."England". . ."My Fear". . ."What I Want". . ."My Love" all give me an insightful understanding of what made & makes Cherrie Amour the kind & type of phenomenal woman & dynamic artist she has developed into. This is the type of poetic journey that most people would benefit from. . .in learning who they are and what they can become. I started reading "Free to be Me" and couldn't. . .wouldn't. . .didn't want to. . .put it down till I finished.
Even though I'm not a poetry fan; I was quite taken my Cherrie Amour's first book of poems "Free to Be Me". I did have some idea of what to expect having listened to several of Cherrie's poems on her recordings and having a couple of conversations about love and relationships with her.
I was quite impressed by her book of poems which reads almost like a memoir of her life as she travels on her journey. Cherrie's poems lead her toward viewing herself as unique and whole person through self discovery, acceptance and healing.
I would recommend "Free to Be Me" to anyone who has been scarred by early childhood relationships and still carry their wounds deep in their heart and mind.
Poetry taps into another region of our souls that traditional writings can not reach. Cherrie's "memoir of poems" is easier to comprehend with each poem written more like a short chapter in a novel,.
I liked each of the poems. A few of my favorites
1, Why I Write
2. Spoken Words
3. The Secret
4. The Best Gift
5. Ouch!
I finally had a chance to read this book of poetry last night. I usually don't read poetry, other than Limericks - "There was a young maid from Norway, that hung by her heels in the doorway..." I've had some bad experiences with poetry. When I was a teen, my father found a limerick in my wallet and then proceeded to beat the crap out of me for having it. Then a few years ago I was taking an online class on Early 20th Century Lit and all the girls ganged up on me for my point of view. They tried to get me kicked out of the class!
Anyway, I really liked the majority of this book. I related to a lot of the different feelings and emotions. A lot were/are the same that I feel or have felt at some point in my life. My emotions have always gotten the best of me, starting at five years old when my dad smacked me in the head and told me, "Normal people don't laugh at things like this." Not that this happened to Ms Amour, but the feelings are all the same, that we all feel in our lives. It is about relating to those feelings and being reminded of our own.
My favorite poems in this book are
Why I write
My Journey
Spoken Words (That's me!)
The Secret (I know this, but it is hard)
The Best Gift (My dad taking responsibility for his part in our relationship)
I Don't (My thoughts exactly)
What I Want (Short but powerful)
"In" Love (Same as above)
